For Such a Time as This
Esther 4:14 · Ephesians 2:10 · Colossians 3:23
Waiting for your purpose to show up someday? A message from Esther on why God may have already put you right where you need to be.
Most people want to know their purpose. Few people want to hear it might be right where they're standing.
We picture purpose as something far away. A different job. A bigger platform. A city we haven't moved to yet. Someday, when things line up, then we'll finally do what God made us for.
But what if God already put you in position?
A Queen Who Almost Stayed Quiet
Esther didn't plan to be a hero. She was an orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai. Then she became queen of Persia & for a while she kept her head down.
Then a law was signed to wipe out her people. Mordecai sent her a message she couldn't ignore.
Esther 4:14 says, "And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"
Notice what Mordecai didn't say. He didn't say, "Go find your calling." He said, "Look where you already are."
Her palace wasn't an accident. Her access wasn't luck. Her moment was now.
You Were Made on Purpose
Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Read that slowly. God's handiwork. Not a mistake. Not an afterthought. Something He made with intention.
What about the good works? Prepared in advance. You don't have to invent your purpose. You get to walk into it.
That means your family, your street, your job, even your struggles aren't random. They're the setting God picked for you.
Purpose Usually Looks Ordinary
We want purpose to feel like fireworks. Most days it feels like dishes, emails & a long commute.
Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
Whatever you do. Not just the church stuff. The spreadsheet. The diaper. The conversation with the coworker nobody likes.
Esther's big moment came after years of ordinary faithfulness. Yours probably will too. Purpose isn't usually found in one huge leap. It's built in a thousand small yeses.
The Cost of Staying Quiet
Here's the hard part. Mordecai also told Esther that if she stayed silent, help would come from somewhere else.
God's plan doesn't depend on you. But He invites you into it.
You can miss your moment. Not because God failed, but because fear felt safer than faith.
Esther chose courage. She said, "If I perish, I perish." Then she walked into the king's court uninvited.
You might not face a king. But you might face a hard conversation, a neighbor who needs help or a door that scares you.
This Week
Here's my challenge.
Look at the three places you spend the most time this week. Home. Work. Wherever else.
In each one, ask a simple question: "Who here needs what God has given me?"
Then do one thing about it. Make the call. Offer the help. Say the true thing you've been holding back.
Don't wait for a bigger stage. Use the one you're standing on.
You're not waiting for your purpose. Your purpose is waiting on you.
Can I invite you to stop looking for somewhere else to matter & start showing up right where God placed you?
